The magnitude of behavioural responses to artificial light at night depends on the ecological context in a coastal marine ecosystem engineer

Artificial light at night (ALAN) is one of the most extensive human geographic disturbances to wildlife. ALAN can have ecological and evolutionary effects on individual organisms, which in turn affect populations, communities ecosystems. Although understanding ecology biology organisms has increased recent years, these advances are terrestrial environments, but scarce marine habitats, especially ecologically important transition areas such as saltmarshes. Here, we study behavioural budget (i.e. proportion time spent performing feeding, burrow maintenance concealment) South American intertidal crab Neohelice granulata, an ecosystem engineer coastal salt marshes. Moreover, compared impact a gradient between two different saltmarshes with contrasting environmental characteristics. Our results showed relationship budget. In particular, that increase drove maintaining burrows expense concealed or feeding outside it. Such slightly patterns saltmarshes, possibly related reproductive value for mating predation risk.
